A Monument, a University and Three Marches

Published

on

Journalism 610 – Multimedia Storytelling II decided for their class project to document the Black History Month March on Thursday, the Students Against Social Injustice action on Friday, and the neo-Confederate March and its counter-protest on Saturday. At the center of the controversy last week is the 30-foot high statue on the campus circle commemorating the service of the infantry unit known colloquially as the University Greys. The events on campus highlighted various student groups position on the statue as well as the neo-Confederate concerns about the loss of iconography that they consider historical and many think of as hateful. Thankfully it was a violence-free week and all sides were able to tell their story on campus. The following is a visual record of Thursday through Saturday on the campus of the University of Mississippi.
