Memorial benches will come with a bronze plaque for $2,500.

Oxford residents can now sit and pause to remember lost loved ones on a bench named in their honor.

On Tuesday, the city of Oxford implemented a new bench donation program.

The benches will be maintained by the Oxford Building and Grounds Department and will provide a lasting tribute to residents, special events or causes.

The 8-foot by 11-foot gauge steel welded benches will come with a 3-inch by 6-inch bronze recognition plaque. Each plaque will allow up to three lines of text, 21 characters per line including spaces. Wording is subject to approval.

Donors won’t be able to choose the exact location of the benches; however, they will be able to rank three bench locations – from their first choice to their third choice. Final bench locations will be determined by city officials.

Benches cost $2,500 and are on a 10-year term. If during the 10-year period the bench needs to be relocated, city officials will contact the donor to discuss alternative locations.

After the 10-year period is over, the bench may be removed or relocated without the donor’s consent.

Bench Donation forms can be picked up at City Hall on the downtown Square.
