The Ole Miss Rebels basketball team defeated the No. 10 Auburn Tigers on Wednesday night 82-67 inside the Pavilion in front of a large crowd.

“The crowd played a huge part. It was fun to see that, to play that well in front of that kind of crowd,” Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis said. “To see the fan base come together this early – there aren’t students on campus and the student section was full.”

Senior Terence Davis led the Rebels (12-2, 2-0) in scoring with 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double in the contest.

“He’s done this his whole career. He’s had big games,” Davis said. “When you get a guard that’s going to get 12 rebounds, you know he played great.”

Ole Miss has now won nine straight games that ties the mark set by the 2012-13 squad.

Coach Davis’ squad controlled the game from the opening tip and was able to withstand the runs that the Tigers made to try and take the lead.

The Rebels had three other players score in double figures including freshman KJ Buffen with a career-high 16 points alongside Devontae Shuler’s 14 points and Dominik Olejniczak 11 of his own. Ole Miss outrebounded Auburn 45-37 in the game.

Auburn (11-3,0-1) was led in the contest by Bryce Brown with 23 points. The Rebels held the Tigers to shot only 32.5 percent from the field in the second half. From beyond the arc, Auburn shot 35.9 percent in the game as they hit 14-of-39 attempts.

Ole Miss continued its conference-leading streak from the charity stripe by hitting 73 percent in the game. In the second half, the Rebels hit 60 percent of its shots from downtown by going 3-5.

The Rebels return to action on Saturday at noon as they travel to Starkville to take on the No. 14 Mississippi State Bulldogs on CBS.
