Frequent rain showers have stalled the cleanup of trees being cut by the Mississippi Department of Transportation in Oxford.

Along Highway 6 East to where it intersects with Highway 7, MDOT crews have been cutting back trees to maintain sight lines and push back growth, according to MDOT spokesman Jace Ponder.

However, the rainy weather has stalled the cleaning up of the limbs under the trees, causing some Oxford residents to complain about the unsightliness of the rubbish.

“The state came in mid-August and trimmed the trees and left the limbs piled under the trees. Now two weeks ago they came in with another machine and left splintered trees/limbs that look awful,” one Oxford resident told Hottytoddy.com in an email.

Ponder said crews will continue to clean up underneath the trees in the coming weeks as weather allows.
