Former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has landed a new position as the head man for the Liberty University Flames football team. He will be introduced in a press conference today at 2 p.m.

Liberty University is a Christian academic community in the tradition of evangelical institutions of higher education, according to its website.

Freeze replaces Liberty’s longtime coach Turner Gill who had a 47-35 record in his seven seasons. He guided the team during a transition from FCS to FBS and went 6-6 this past season.

Freeze is reportedly getting a five-year contract at Liberty, according to a tweet by Bruce Feldman, a Fox Sports senior football columnist.

Freeze came to Ole Miss in 2012 and stepped down in 2017 amid a scandal involving phone calls to escorts. During his tenure at the helm of the program, he guided the Rebels to a total of 39 wins and four straight bowl games with back-to-back ’New Years Six’ bowl berths. He also led the Rebels to defeat Alabama in back-to-back years.

After resigning, Freeze left the game completely for two full seasons but was named the new offensive coordinator for the new American Alliance Football league with the Arizona Hotshots in October.

The Rebels look to take the gridiron against Liberty in the 2021 season inside the Vaught.
