Oxford Escapes Worst of Monday Night Storms
Although tornado sirens blared for almost an hour in Oxford and Lafayette County, there have been no reports of tornadoes touching down in the area Monday night.
However, the fast-moving line of storms did down a few trees, limbs and power lines around 9 p.m., although North East Electric Power Association and Oxford Utilities show no outages as of 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Reports of trees down in the Anchor community were actually unrelated to the storm, said Steve Quarles, Lafayette County Emergency Management Director. He said the county was clearing out some trees and left debris that the storm roused, but they responded quickly to clean it up.
“Everything went according to plan throughout the night,” Quarles said.
The storms produced tornadoes in Louisiana and one in Tupelo.
