It seems as if Mother Nature decided there should be trick-or-treating in Oxford this afternoon after all.
According to the National Weather Service, the chance of rain today is only at 20 percent and heavier storms aren’t expected to move into the Lafayette County area until after 1 a.m.
With earlier reports Tuesday of severe thunderstorm likely on Halloween, several Oxford and Lafayette County subdivision opened their doors to hundreds of trick-or-treaters Tuesday night.
Twelve Oaks subdivision has announced it will welcome trick-or-treaters tonight, along with Yokona Ridge and Taylor Greene subdivisions.
Trick-or-treating is expected to go on as usual along most of Oxford’s downtown neighborhoods, including the popular North and South Lamar boulevards.
The Halloween Spooktacular on the Downtown Square is still scheduled for tonight. Any updates will be on Family Crisis Services of Northwest Mississippi, Inc.’s Facebook page and shared to the various group pages, according to Director LeeAnn Griffin.
With Mississippi’s unpredictable weather, and as long as there is still a chance of showers, continue to check with the NWS for updates on tonight’s weather and Hottytoddy.com for any trick-or-treating and Halloween event cancelations.
