Oxford Crime & Fire Reports for Oct. 26-28, 2018

The following reports were made Oct. 26-28, 2018, by city and county law enforcement agencies, unless otherwise indicated.

Oxford Police Department issued 63 tickets, investigated 13 wrecks and the following reports:
1 911 hang-up
21 alarms
4 ambulance assists
3 animal complaints
5 careless driving complaints
5 civil matters
1 counterfeit currency
11 disturbing the peace complaints
2 domestic disturbances
1 embezzlement
1 fire department assist
1 joyriding
3 lost properties
2 motorist assists
1 obstructing traffic
1 simple assault
7 suspicious activities
3 suspicious people
1 vehicle search
5 welfare checks

Officers made the following arrests:
1 DUI
1 DUI and careless driving
1 DUI, careless driving and speeding
1 DUI and no driver’s license
1 DUI, running a red light and no insurance
1 DUI-second, no insurance, possession of a schedule 4 drug and careless driving
1 giving false information
1 minor in possession of alcohol and no seat belt
1 open container
3 possessions of drug paraphernalia
2 for public drunk
2 for simple assault

Lafayette Sheriff’s Department investigated two wrecks and the following reports:
5 alarms
2 animal complaints
1 residential burglary (CR 204)
16 disturbances
1 petty theft
1 harassment
3 service calls
10 suspicious activities
2 trespassings
2 follow-ups
1 traffic complaint
2 frauds
4 reckless driving complaints
3 civil matters
3 funeral assists
3 church assists
1 MHP assists
2 ambulance assists

Deputies made the following arrests:
1 possession of drug paraphernalia in vehicle, suspended driver’s license, no insurance and disorderly conduct
1 writ to take into custody

University Police Department made no arrests, investigated three wrecks and the following reports:
1 suspicious vehicle
1 loud music
4 EMS for intoxicated persons
2 ambulance assists
1 suspicious person
1 disturbance
1 possession of drug paraphernalia

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
10/26 – 5:14 p.m. – North Residential College – steam activated a smoke detector
10/26 – 7:39 p.m. – 1403 South. 16th St. – assisted EMS
10/26 – 9:20 p.m. – Crosby Hall – cooking activated 9th-floor lounge smoke detector
10/26 – 10:55 p.m. – Pegues Road – someone ran over a water hydrant – stood by for water department
10/26 – 11:03 p.m. – 262 Old Castle Loop  – smoke detector malfunction
10/27 – 3:15 a.m. – Home 2 Suites – Uber driver ran through a flower bed and the exhaust pipe caused the pine straw to start smoking
10/27 – 6:54 a.m. – The Flatts – smell of gas – there is no gas at this complex
10/27 – 12:36 p.m. – 1413 Lawson St. – smell of gas at the stove – there was nothing found
10/27 – 15:37 p.m. – Old Taylor Road / High Point Coffee area – report of a car fire – call unfounded
10:27 – 6:09 p.m. – The Blake – cleaning grill activated a kitchen smoke detector
10/27 – 10:46 p.m. – 100 Azalea Gardens – turned the heat on for the first time
10/27 – 11:11 p.m. – Campus Creek Apts. – helped EMS load a patient
10/28 – 6:15 a.m. – Haven House – back door kitchen fire alarm pull station malfunction
10/28 – 6:16 a.m. – 908 CB Webb – bad light ballast
