Ole Miss sophomore wide receiver D.K. Metcalf will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his neck during the win over Arkansas.

Head coach Matt Luke broke the news Monday, Oct. 15 at his weekly press conference.

The injury occurred early in the first quarter after the opening drive. Luke said at first the injury appeared to be whiplash, but the MRI proved it affected his vertebrae.

“Long-term he is going to be fine,” Luke said. “(The injury) is just going to prevent him from playing the rest of the season.”

Metcalf made a 49-yard reception on the first drive against the Razorbacks to mark the first score of the game. In seven games this season he recorded 26 catches for 569 yards and five touchdowns.

In 2016, Metcalf scored two touchdowns in his first two games prior to breaking his foot against Wofford. Last season he played and started in all 12 contests tallying 39 receptions for 646 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Rebels take the gridiron Saturday, Oct. 20 against Auburn. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. on ESPN.

Best to DK in his surgery and rehab. Hoping to see #14 back on the field for our Rebels in 2019!
