LOU Community Gathers at Lafayette High School for ‘Fields of Faith’ Worship

Students often gather on Lafayette High School’s football field to run, catch and cheer, but on Wednesday Oct. 10 students, faculty and community members gathered to worship God, sing praise songs and challenge one another through their own personal testimonies and encouragement.

Hayden Hopper, senior at Lafayette High School, said the worship service, known as “Fields of Faith,” is a comfortable place for students to worship together within their community.

Fields of Faith is a student-led event where students challenge their peers to read their Bibles, pray and worship Jesus Christ.

“Fields of Faith is a great way for the students and the school itself to come together and be able to worship Christ without any feelings of being judged,” Hopper said.

Fields of Faith coordinator for Lafayette High School, Deshone Thompson, said that the field itself is an important component to the overall event.

“It is special because of where we get to do it. Given the climate today, we get to come on a high school football field and worship, and I think that is so awesome and that God would grant us this opportunity,” he said.

This year is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ 15th Annual Fields of Faith event. FCA is an organization that challenges coaches and athletes, across the globe, to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ and to change the world through the gospel.

Fields of Faith was created in 2002 by Oklahoma Fellowship of Christian Athletes Area Director, Jeff Martin. Since the first service in 2004, thousands of people have attended the event. Last year, the 2017 national event set a new attendance record of 198,000 people.
