Senior goalie Marnie Merritt’s career as an Ole Miss Rebel came to an end after a knee injury early in the match against Arkansas on Sunday.
Head Coach Matt Mott said in his weekly press conference he suspected the senior tore her ACL. Merritt confirm on Wednesday via Twitter it was a season-ending knee injury.
“My five years here have only affirmed my decision to become an Ole Miss Rebel,” she said in her post. “That time has been cut short due to a knee injury that will end my career here at Ole Miss.”
Merritt started all 15 games this season in the goalie box, logging a total of 1305:24 minutes with 49 saves. Coming into her senior campaign on the pitch she played in 62 matches and tallied 228 saves.
The Rebels return to action Thursday evening as they travel to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats on SEC Network. First kick is set for 6:30 p.m.
