Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is proud to announce a new addition to their practice. Dr. Steven Blackwood joins Dr. Cooper Terry, Dr. Daniel Boyd and Dr. Kurre Luber to the team of Orthopaedic talent, providing expert level orthopedic care to the Oxford community and region.

Blackwood is a talented board eligible orthopaedic surgeon, with a specialty in foot and ankle care. A Roswell, Ga. native, Blackwood graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with Highest Honors. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia where he served as class representative for the Association of American Medical Colleges.

He completed residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where he received subsequent recognition of outstanding service by an Orthopaedic Surgery Resident as recognized by peers, staff, patients and faculty.

His training and expertise complements the team of orthopaedic talent at Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Stepping into a team role in general orthopaedics, Blackwood is the only trained foot and ankle specialist within the area, and now raises the bar for quality healthcare relating to foot and ankle orthopaedics in Oxford and the community.

Blackwood is skilled in both general orthopaedics and sports medicine. As a former baseball athlete at Georgia Tech, Blackwood was recently inducted into the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2018. His experience in sports medicine is from both a personal and professional point of view. During his fellowship, Blackwood treated patients associated with the Major League Baseball (Milwaukee Brewers), and numerous collegiate and high school athletic teams.

For Blackwood and his wife Sara, Oxford immediately felt like home.

“Oxford is a great place to raise kids, and it’s safe, and we’re excited to be here,” Blackwood said. Photo courtesy of Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

“When we visited Oxford for my first interview, we fell in love with it, and it just kept feeling more and more like home,” Blackwood said. “We felt like this would be a great opportunity for me to grow as a physician, and help build a practice for a need that is needed in Oxford. But also for us to grow our family. Oxford is a great place to raise kids, and it’s safe, and we’re excited to be here.”

The physicians of Oxford Orthopaedics have a reputation for excellence that goes far beyond the Oxford area. With the addition of Blackwood, the team of experts at Oxford Orthopaedics will continue to offer the highest quality care in the area. Nationally acclaimed and board certified, the doctors at Oxford Orthopaedics are at the top of the medical profession and educated on the latest technologies and state of the art practices to serve this thriving community.

“We are extremely happy that Sara and Dr. Blackwood have joined our community,” Boyd said. “Dr. Blackwood brings expert knowledge in the treatment of foot and ankle problems that our community has needed for many years. Patients can know that when they come to Oxford Orthopaedics they can see an expert in any of the areas of bone and joint care.”

Blackwood and his family are actively involved in the Oxford community. They are already involved in the Junior Auxiliary, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and the Regents School Parents Association. Both are eager to further contribute to their new home in Oxford.

Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is excited to welcome the Blackwoods to the community, and look forward to their service to the Oxford area, and commitment to provide exceptional healthcare to the community. In addition to Oxford, Blackwood is also accepting patients at the Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine clinic in Hernando, and the surrounding area.
