As they rallied around Bridgette Turner and her family while she fought for her life, the Oxford community continues to show its support for the loved ones she left behind.
Turner, 44, died last week from a rare autoimmune disease. She was laid to rest Sunday in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
During her illness, which started in June, the Oxford community raised more than $35,000 to help the Turners to pay for bills and shared her story reaching well beyond Oxford.
Now, residents are signing up on the Take Them a Meal website to help her husband, Preston, her father-in-law Jack Turner, and her and Preston’s son, John Preston, by providing meals over the next several weeks.
Spots are filling up quickly; however, there are several days in October that are still open.
“They could use a couple of months of some steady meals to ease them into this next phase of their lives,” said family friend Mary Beth Mobley who created the online sign-up meal list. “So many people want to help in some way. It’s a great way to allow people to show some love to the Turners that directly benefits them as well.”
