The Ole Miss Landshark defense will be without junior defensive back Montreal Custis for the rest of the season after a torn ACL suffered in the 62-7 loss against Alabama. Custis will undergo surgery on Thursday.
This season, he has racked up 13 tackles and four pass breakups.
Coach Matt Luke talked to the media Monday about how his injury will affect the defense.
“Its a tough blow to the secondary,” Luke said. “Vernon Dasher will have to step in there and Cam Ordway. Myles Hatfield can step in to play the position.”
Ole Miss’ defense has lost two key players in the secondary in Devonte Evans and now Custis.
“Its key that we really get players in the right fit,” defensive coordinator Wesley McGriff said. “Keidron Smith has really been playing good for us and we will have to increase his snaps. Hartfield has given us a lot of flex ability by playing both the inside and outside.”
The Rebels play host to Kent State Saturday at 11 a.m.
