OPD Arrests 5 for Unrelated Crimes of Theft

The Oxford Police Department arrested five people in the last week for theft-related crimes in unrelated investigations.

On Sunday, an Oxford man was arrested on six counts of obtaining personal identity information for unlawful use and police say more victims may be out there.

According to reports, on Sept. 2, a person reported that his credit card had been used at Landshark Delivery without his consent. Investigators went to where the food was delivered and met Matthew Brown, 27, of Oxford. Brown said he had no idea how the food got to his residence; however, an investigation led to Brown being a suspect in at least five other similar cases.

Brown was allegedly using the identities of people in different states to start credit card accounts. He was arrested Sunday and booked into the detention center on a $60,000 bond. OPD said the case is ongoing and anyone with information should call OPD at 662-232-2400.

Madalene Crump

Stolen check
On Aug. 24, officers arrested Madalene Crump, 24, of Oxford on a charge of uttering forgery. According to reports, on Aug. 10, a report was taken claiming Crump had stolen a check and later cashed it at a local bank by forging the victim’s signature. Crump was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center and given a bond of $2,500 by a Justice Court Judge.

Grand theft auto
On Sept. 4, investigators charged a Louisiana man with motor vehicle theft. According to reports, on Jan. 30, 2018, officers took a report for a stolen vehicle. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Jimmy Robichaux, 62 of Harvey, Louisiana. The vehicle was located in Hammond, Louisiana and Robichaux was later arrested for charges unrelated to the theft. On Sept. 4, Robichaux was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center and served his arrest warrant for motor vehicle theft. He was given a bond of $15,000.

Credit card fraud

Scott Sutters

On Saturday OPD arrested Scott Sutter, 24, of Oxford, for false pretenses. According to reports, on July 23, 2018, officers took a report from a business claiming Sutter was making purchases with his credit card and then calling the credit card company stating his card was stolen. After reporting this to the credit card company the business had over $700 taken from their account. Workers at the business identified Sutter as the person making the purchases. Sutter was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center and given a bond of $5,000 by a Justice Court Judge.

Jazzmonica Johnson

Rental car not returned
On Monday a woman was arrested for allegedly not returning a rental car. According to reports, on Aug. 3, OPD took a report for a theft of a rental car. Jazzmonica Johnson, 24, of Oxford, rented the car in June and never returned the vehicle.

The rental car company filed charges against Johnson for embezzlement under contract. On Sunday, she was arrested by an outside law enforcement agency and transported back to Lafayette County where she was booked into the detention center on a $10,000 bond.
