Tabletop and collectible card game enthusiasts have a new spot to play and shop in Oxford.
Oxford residents Casey and Vicki Lindsay opened the doors to their new gaming store, Oxford Gamerz Den, at noon on Thursday. Within a few minutes, their first customer walked through the doors.
The store has a wide selection of tabletop, board and trading card games, including Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Munchkin, Warhammer 40K and more. What’s not currently in the store can be ordered and received within a couple of days.
More importantly, however, Vicki Lindsay says the store offers a safe, family atmosphere where gamers of all ages can gather and play their game of choice on one of the several tables in the store, which include three tabletop tables complete with terrain and a table just for role-playing games, or RPGs, like Dungeons and Dragons.
While the Lindsays are fairly new to the gaming world, the idea of opening a gaming store was born after forming a friendship with a neighbor, an avid tabletop gamer, who introduced the Lindsays to the Oxford gaming community.
“He would talk about the needs of gamers in Oxford and how a safe, family-friendly place was greatly needed here,” Vicki Lindsay said Thursday.
Her sons also dabbled in games like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! and were part of a gaming club at Lafayette High School.

With the help of their neighbor and several other members of Oxford’s gaming community, the Lindsays jumped into the gaming world with both feet.
Along with selling games like Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40K, Shadespire and Lord of the Rings, the store offers fantasy flight game products for Star Wars Legion and X-Wing, and several card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon and Legend of the Five Rings.
Lindsay said the Den caters to card, tabletop and board games only.
“We don’t sell comic books or video games,” she said.

A hobby for many gamers is painting the models used in tabletop games. Oxford Gamerz Den will provide free painting clinics on the first and third Saturday of each month. The store also sells Citadel paints, brushes and game dice, and has plenty of space for painters to sit and socialize while painting.
Tonight at 7 p.m., Oxford Gamerz Den will host its first Magic Booster Draft.
Role-playing games, like Dungeon and Dragons, will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
Store manager Perry Roberts has been an avid gamer for almost as long as he can remember—from tabletop gaming to CCGs—and is looking forward to sharing his knowledge with future customers.
“I’m excited to teach others and to learn from them as well,” Roberts said Thursday.
The Den also offers a gaming club membership for $5 a month that goes toward prize money for tournaments. Members of Z Pro Club get a 10 percent discount on gaming merchandise and a 20 percent discount during tournaments on models associated with the tournament being held that day. Members can also pay a small fee to reserve game space.
Tournaments and other events are announced on the Den’s social media sites, including Facebook at Oxford Gamerz Den; Instagram at @oxfordgamerzden and Twitter at #oxgamersden.
