The Lafayette Commodores return to action on Friday night as they play host to the Charleston Tigers at William L. Buford Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Lafayette (1-0) rolled past Cleveland Central last week in a 48-6 route to open the 2018 season.

“We played really well with exceptional effort,” head coach Michael Fair said. “We have a long ways to go. There were several penalties that killed drives and missed assignments that we have to brush up on. Overall, I was very pleased with our effort.”

The Commodores rushed the ball for a total of 458 yards in the game on 40 touches between four players. Senior Jamie Shaw did a bulk of the work on the ground as he carried the ball 18 times for 105 yards. His teammate, senior Lance Stewart, rushed for 159 yards on the night.

“Shaw is just a workhorse for us. He gets stronger and stronger as the game goes along,” Fair said. “He is one of those rare running backs that with the more carries he gets the better he is. We are excited about his progress back there at tailback.”

Lafayette’s dual-threat quarterback Randy Anderson threw for 98 yards and used his legs for another 119 on the ground.

“Anderson played well at quarterback making some great decisions and didn’t turn the ball over to put us in position to make some big plays,” Fair said. “Randy’s maturity and development at quarterback has been really good.”

Charleston enters the game 1-0 on the season after defeating West Bolivar 38-0. The Tigers were led on offensive in the game by senior Quynn Crawford who rushed for 80 yards in the shutout victory.

“Charleston plays extremely well and always has,” Fair said. “Last year, they jumped out on us and we could not climb out of it. Tomorrow night will be a physical football game and we will have to play well to come out on top.”
