NCAA Unveils New Metric for Tournament Seeding

The NCAA announced Wednesday a new metric to better select the 68 teams that advance to the NCAA Tournament. The committee will use the NCAA Evaluation Tool, also known as NET, to project team seed in the tournament.
NET takes the place of the Rating Power Index that relied on a team strength of schedule and wins and losses. The NCAA adopted the RPI in 1981.
According to the NCAA the new metric NET will include game location, game results, strength of schedule, scoring margin, offensive and defensive efficiency and quality of wins and losses in its seeding determination.
This ranking will be available to the public in November or early December and update daily through Selection Sunday and then again after the final game of the NCAA Tournament.
Women’s college basketball and other Division 1 sports committees will still use the RPI for the 2018-19 season.
