A Night for Nonprofits will allow local Oxonians to support their favorite charity – or two or three or 10 favorite charities.
The third annual event, sponsored by the Lafayette Oxford Foundation for Tomorrow will begin at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 and will be held at The Powerhouse. A cocktail hour will kick-off the event where guests will have the opportunity to sample from a culinary tasting table that will feature food from Oxford restaurants.
Tickets at $10 per person and children 12 and under are free.
While nibbling on hors-d’oeuvres, people can browsing displays and interact with nonprofit representatives that showcase the work they are performing in the community. Some of the participating restaurants this year will be Beagle Bagel, Chicken Salad Chick, Saint Leo, Proud Larry’s and the Wine Bar.
All nonprofits taking part in the Night for Nonprofits will be competing for one of three “Crowd Favorite Awards” and cash prizes. Attendees will each receive a voting ticket at the door and will vote for the nonprofit they wish to win a “Crowd Favorite” award. Additional voting tickets may be purchased at the door for $10.
Event organizer Amy Goodin said the event has grown over the last three years.
“The first year we had 12 nonprofits and people donated $15,050 that night,” she said. “This year we have 20 nonprofits and we will donate more than $50,000.”
Tickets for the Nonprofit Raffle may also be purchased at the door for $5. The raffle winner will be able to donate the winnings, $1,500, to the nonprofit of their choice.
Following the social hour, LOFT will announce their grand prize grant winners, the three “Crowd Favorite” winners and prize amounts, and the Nonprofit Raffle winner will be drawn.
The nonprofit organizations that will be at the event and vying for the largest donations will be: Boys and Girl Club of Oxford; Boys & Girls Club; Burns Belfry Multicultural Center; Doors of Hope; Family Crisis Services; First Regional Library; Friends of Thacker Mountain Radio, Inc.; Girl Scouts; Gordon Center; Health Services in Action, Inc.; Interfaith; Living Music Resource; Memory Makers Respite Day Services of Oxford Inc.; Mississippi Coats 4 Kidz; Mississippi Presenters’ Network; Oxford Civic Chorus; Oxford Film Festival; Theatre Oxford; UM School of Education; United Way and Yoknapatawpha Arts Council.
Each nonprofit in attendance is guaranteed to be awarded at least $250.
