Satterfield Pottery Incorporates True Mississippi Experience Into Each Piece

Michael Satterfield wants to fill your home with beautiful, durable pottery you can love for generations.

As the founder and owner of Satterfield Pottery, Michael said he wanted all his art to have Mississippi influences. His roots run deep in the farmlands of the Mississippi Delta, but he soon traveled east to become a studio artist and obtain an M.F.A. from the University of Mississippi.
“Because I grew up farming, I was inspired by nature,” he said.
From Mississippi, he went on to spend several years in Ouray, Colorado in the San Juan Mountain Range of the Colorado Rockies.
While living in these two exclusive areas of the country, Satterfield developed unique skills working with different mediums like stone, ceramics, wood, paint, drawing, film, and metal works. His fascination with these materials became the drive for his sculptural inspiration, he said.
He began teaching pottery at the Oxford School District and continued his passion to develop his very own business, located at 31 County Road 348 in an old, red staple barn that he converted to a show room with studio space for pottery making.
“All this has come in time,” Satterfield said. “It is a dream.”
Satterfield’s work is featured in eight states, one being the Ogden Museum of Southern Arts in New Orleans and the other at Babcock Gifts in Memphis. Also in Memphis, the famed Peabody Hotel contracts Satterfield to make green-headed ducks. Locally, his pottery is displayed at Neilson’s on the Square.

River Bottom, Pistachio, and Ocean are 2018’s best-selling colors. He has also crafted a “Hotty Toddy” red and blue collection for the upcoming football season that is “anything and everything Ole Miss.”
Also unique to Satterfield Pottery is the inaugural Clear Creek Music and Arts Festival on the studio grounds. The festival, held Friday, Sept. 21 beginning at 11 a.m., is themed “The Delta to the Hills”, and is a celebration of Satterfield Pottery’s grand opening. Artists, musicians, food trucks, and local business owners will be in attendance for the ribbon cutting that morning.
“I am excited for the community to come together and enjoy an afternoon celebrating music, arts, and the special town that Oxford is,” Satterfield said.
