Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown was selected to the Walter Camp Award watch list on Friday.

Brown’s preseason accolades also include being a nominee for the Maxwell Award—which honors college football’s top player—and a nomination for the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation’s top wide receiver.
The 2018 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 129 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 6. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 52nd annual national awards banquet on Jan. 12, 2019 in New Haven, Connecticut.
The Starkville native is tabbed as a preseason All-American by multiple outlets. Last season, Brown became the Rebels single-season record-holder in receiving yards (1,252) and tied for the top spot in receiving touchdowns (11). He was tops in the SEC and ranked sixth nationally in receiving yards per game (104.3) during his sophomore campaign in 2017.
His six 100-yard receiving games tied for best in a single season, equaling Laquon Treadwell’s mark in 2015. The 2017 Conerly Trophy winner finished third on the single-season record charts in receptions (75).
Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp—a former Yale University athlete and football coach—is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation, a New Haven-based all-volunteer group, was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
Ole Miss opens the 2018 season versus Texas Tech in Houston at the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
