Ole Miss Tight End Dawson Knox Named to the John Mackey Award List
Ole Miss’ Dawson Knox was tabbed to the preseason watch list for the 2018 John Mackey Award, which goes to the top tight end in college football. The Friends of John Mackey announced the list on Friday.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
Knox is entering his junior season for the red and blue. He recorded 24 catches last season that ranked him second among tight ends in the nation.
The Brentwood, Tennessee native, and preseason All-SEC selection from Phil Steele, was a 2017 nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy. It is awarded to college football’s top player who begins his career as a walk-on.
The award recipient is selected by a vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee, and the 2018 Mackey Award recipient will be announced Dec. 5, 2018. It will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Ole Miss opens the 2018 season versus Texas Tech on Sept. 1, in Houston, at the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
