Ole Miss' A.J. Brown Named to 2018 Biletnikoff Award List
Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown was named one of 50 players on the initial watch list for the 2018 Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the top receiver in college football. The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced the list Thursday morning.
The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Any player regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award.
Brown, a preseason first-team All-American by multiple publications, finished the 2017 season as the Ole Miss single-season record-holder in receiving yards (1,252) and tied for the top spot in receiving touchdowns (11). He was tops in the SEC and ranked sixth nationally in receiving yards per game (104.3) in 2017.
Brown, who was named to the Maxwell Award watch list earlier in the week, was a 2017 semifinalist for the Biletnikoff as a sophomore. His six 100-yard receiving games tied for best in a single season, equaling Laquon Treadwell’s mark in 2015.
The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards presented by Gildan, which will be televised on ESPN. College and pro football hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
The Rebels open the 2018 season vs Texas Tech in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff, in Houston, on Sept 1. Kick is set for 11 a.m. on ESPN.
