E.C. Moore General Store Offers Authentic Butcher-Shop Experience

E.C. Moore General Store is an epicurean mirage in the sea of fields and pastures that connect Oxford and Batesville.
The store, located off Highway 6 in Panola County, offers an assortment of hand cut meats—sausage, steaks, and pork chops—to name a few. Fresh seafood is also available (when in season) like crabs, shrimp, oysters, and scallops. These items come straight from the Gulf of Mexico every Thursday, said store manager Monica Contini.
“We also do weekly specials every week that are pre-made for people to eat,” Contini said.
Although it’s known for its selection of meats and seafood, E.C. Moore General Store offers other food products to help complete your meal. From sides and desserts to ready-made meals and seasonings, the store offers a growing list of local brands from different Mississippi towns. They include:
o Sweet Magnolia Gelato (Clarksdale)
o Wheeler Pecans (Indianola)
o Delta Blues Rice (Ruleville)
o Delta Grind – Stone Ground Grits and Cornmeal (Water Valley)
o Delta Pecan Orchard – Gourmet Pecan Oil (Tutwiler)
o Locke Farm Honey (Sardis)
o Juke Joint Delta Tamales
o Boars Night Out Seasonings (Olive Branch)
o Charles Force Honey (Nesbit)
Edward Clarence opened the specialty grocery store and butcher shop in September 2017, and to keep the family business alive he passed down the store to his two great grandsons Trevor and Tyler Moore.
Contini said customers come back again and again for the Black Angus beef.
“We carry all choice and above choice beef and cut everything in the morning, whatever you prefer,” she said.
E.C. Moore General Store is located off Highway 6 between Oxford and Batesville and is open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
