Community Film to Hold Auditions July 13 at The Powerhouse

If you’ve ever dreamed of appearing on the silver screen, tonight’s auditions for the annual Community Film might just be your chance.

Each year since 2011, the Oxford Film Festival kicks off with a special screening of a short film that stars local community members and is shot in Oxford.
This year’s film is a dark comedy written and directed by Connor King.
“The movie is about a meticulously planned and imposing party, and the host is determined to see that his guests enjoy it,” King said of the film.
Auditions will be held tonight, July 13, at The Powerhouse for extras and some speaking roles. Sign-in begins at 5:15 p.m. and auditions begin at 6 p.m.
Since the film involves a party scene involving alcoholic beverages, only adults will be in this year’s film, according to Oxford Film Festival Executive Director Melanie Addington.
“Anyone 18 and up can audition,” she said. “Any gender and ethnicity are open to join.”
The first Community Film was started by Micah Ginn, a former co-director of the Film Festival. The film starred Todd Wade and was titled, “The Hanging of Big Todd Wade.”
“Since then we have done something every year with new directors,” Addington said. “It is really a lot of fun to let people learn more about the process of filmmaking.”
King approached the Film Festival earlier this year and asked to be this year’s director.

“The idea for this movie is one I’ve been sitting on for a little while now and I’m glad Melanie is allowing me to finally bring it to light as the community film,” King said.
Filming is scheduled to take place Aug. 1 and 2.
Charter Road Hospitality is donating the location where the film will be shot.
“Every year we get help from local businesses letting us use their spaces,” Addington said. “But we are always looking for an executive producer to provide funds to feed the cast and crew.”
The Oxford Film Festival will be held Feb. 6-9, 2019.
