The Moms Away From Moms: Greek Life House Mothers
When people think of Greek Life at Ole Miss they think of the many students, but many do not think of the hard workers behind the scenes. With 14 fraternity houses and 11 sorority houses at Ole Miss, there is a need for house mothers to help the everyday organization and function of those organizations.
Many house mothers on campus, like Martha Collins and Angela Fava Woods, love their jobs and the college students they are surrounded by.
Collins, the Tri Delta house mother for 10 years, loves the girls like they are her own. Similarly to Collins, Woods feels the same way and is approaching her fourth year as a house mother. Both women believe there is a special bond between all of them.
“It’s a job that you either love or that you would not do for a million dollars,” Woods said.
For many students and members, Maggie Kelley says that these house mothers provide comfort when they are far away from home and their moms.
“It’s comforting to know that you have somebody and that they will be there for you no matter what,” Kelley said.
