A Conservative's Response to "Sad to Hear Wicker Singing Praises of Trump"

Rarely, if ever, do I respond to another column posted on HottyToddy.com. However, Charlie Mitchell’s slam on our president and Senator Wicker were far too much to digest in one sitting.
To begin with, I’m going to respond to Mitchell’s opinion piece with facts only. Fact number one… Mitchell’s opinion that “Trump, on the other hand, is anything but stable.” My response…By not having a degree in psychology or being a psychiatrist, it is difficult for me to know exactly what Mitchell is referring. What I do know, however, is that the daily Rasmussen Presidential Tracking Poll of April 18 has President Trump with a 50 percent approval rating of the job he is doing, compared to 47 percent approval for President Obama, exactly eight years ago. I would assume that the “stability of a president” factors heavily into this rating.
Fact number two…Mitchell’s put down of Senator Wicker “doesn’t measure down to the stature of our current president.” Maybe this was intended as a backhanded compliment, although Lafayette County residents might
have a second opinion as President Trump carried our beloved county by 2,900 votes, for those who have conveniently forgotten.
Mississippi is a “red state” in the truest sense of the color wheel as the state went for the president with an overwhelming mandate. The president and vice president “Trumped the Democrat ticket” by 18 percentage points and more than 215,000 votes. In other words, not even close.
As Mitchell describes our senior U.S. senator “positions himself more and more in the president’s pocket and less and less in line with the thoughtful and sincere conservatism that has defined his career”, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that met recently in D.C. could not receive the president more warmly. Conservatives such as myself share the exact same values that President Trump and Senator Wicker embrace. These include allowing U.S. citizens to retain more of their hard earned income, strengthening our military to deal with any threat, combating illegal immigration aggressively and nominating conservative jurists to the U.S. Supreme Court, only to mention the tip of the iceberg.
Whatever differences Mitchell has with our president represent clearly his viewpoints, but not necessarily the majority of Mississippians or even Lafayette County voters. I promised to respond to Mitchell’s comments with only facts, but here is the one exception. If the presidential election were held today, it is my opinion that the president would carry our state by an even larger margin. And Senator Wicker is politically savvy to read the tea leaves accordingly.

I what right wing poll did you find Trump with a 50% approval rating. He lies all the time so I hope your not taking his word for it. Seriously the only poll Trump has a 50% approval rating in is when only white people are counted.

    Mitch:
As Ronald Reagan said to Jimmy Carter in the 1980 Presidential debate, “Well, there you go again”, in your case, playing the usual liberal race card.
When are liberal reverse bigots like you ever gonna learn we all bleed red and that as Americans we all want the same things which is the best for all of us and our families. An America with great defense, a place where all prosper, and the opportunity to make this country a better place for every generation.
The current President, unlike the last you probably voted for, is getting the job done with a bustling economy, rogue nations getting in line due to peace through strength, and a much needed wall on the southern border finally going up!
Quality of life in America is going up just like the President’s job approval ratings. Keep denying the facts, we Trump supporters don’t care.
No surprise you are in denial, the condition of Liberalism is a disease where denial of facts is prevalent.I am very sorry you feel you are a victim but, perhaps a good paying job, safer streets, and a revisit to what made America great in the first place made possible by President Trump can help you beat your suffering over the next six or seven years.
Lastly, the only colors President Trump sees are red, white, and blue and if liberals like you were really honest, it’s those colors you really hate!
    Keep Making America Great Again….anyway!

Columnist Charlie Mitchell is fair. You NEVER know day by day whether he will write like a conservative, or write like a liberal. I’ve had numerous people point out how he is “amphipolitical”, as I guess Yogi Berra would call it.
