Oxford School District Boasts 10 National Merit Finalists
Ten Oxford High School students have met the requirements to advance as finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students were recognized at the Oxford School District Board of Trustees meeting on March 26 for their national distinction, placing them at the pinnacle of academic achievement.
OHS seniors who are among the elite group of high school seniors nationwide are Joanna Bu, Shahbaz Gul, Grace Anne Jones, Lilian Mitchell, Sadie Pasco-Pranger, Josh Pearson, Anish Ravishankar, Anna Renfroe, Ann Sullivan and Julia Swords.
National Merit Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in March 2018. Of the 15,000 nationwide finalists, approximately 8,200 of them will be selected for Merit Scholarships, which can be a National Merit Scholarship, a Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarship or a College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on skills, abilities and accomplishments as exhibited through a student’s application materials, an official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership and the finalist’s own essay.
