OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi School of Law is preparing to launch a new radio program, ”In Legal Terms,” with Mississippi Public Broadcasting. The show debuts July 2 and will air at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, featuring faculty members and guests providing expert commentary on newsworthy legal issues.

Ole Miss law dean Richard Gershon and Matthew Hall, associate dean for academic affairs, will be two of the experts regularly featured. Court trials, Supreme Court arguments, hearings and other legal topics will all be covered.

“MPB is a great resource of information for the state and region,” Gershon said. “We wanted to take a leadership role in providing information on the law, because law affects everyone. The law school is proud to partner with MPB in this effort.”

The experts will both discuss the hows and whats of a law subject and take questions from callers regarding that topic. Anticipated areas of discussion include:

  • Recent Supreme Court Decisions
  • Tax Law and the IRS
  • Intellectual Property Issues and the Entertainment Industry
  • Wrongful Convictions and the Mississippi Innocence Project
  • Drone Strikes Against US Citizens and National Security Law
  • Juvenile Law Issues
  • Legal Issues in Elementary/Secondary Schools
  • Bankruptcy Law
  • Sports Law
  • Church Law
  • Election Law

The show is part of MPB’s new schedule for its Think Radio block, which includes programs such as ”NOW You’re Talking with Marshall Ramsey,” ”Everyday Tech,” “MPB’s Season Pass” and “Next Stop: Mississippi.” The goal is for Mississippi listeners to hear from Mississippians about issues of importance to them.

“We want the listening audience to be an active part of the show, and we welcome their questions and comments,” Gershon said. “Of course, we will not be able to answer questions about their personal legal issues, but we do want to have an entertaining program that is informative and fun.”

Listeners interested in calling in to the program should dial 1-877-672-7464.
