North Mississippi Classic Raising the Bar in Oxford
Oxford will be joining 26 other cities around the world as the PGA Tour’s Web.Com Tour arrives in Oxford April 16-22. This significant event is yet another example of why Oxford has become a premier destination city.
According to the PGA Tour website, Mississippi is just one of five states (California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina) to host an annual tournament on all three tours. The Sanderson Farms Championship and Rapiscan Systems Classic on PGA Tour Champions are previously sanctioned PGA Tour events.
Oxford’s attractions continue to increase and now with a Web.com Tour event arriving next month, the jobs of marketing professionals for the city just got even easier. If the community rallies around this event as 350 volunteers come forth and sponsors step up, Oxford could become a regular stop in professional golf.
The golfing professionals coming to Oxford are just a notch below the PGA Tour’s main attraction with several having shined there already.
The golf ball is now in our fairway, Oxonians. We all need to tee up and climb aboard this exciting new addition to the Oxford and Lafayette County landscape. Should the Web.com Tour event elect to return in 2019, only imagine what other major attractions could have Oxford on their radar.
Let’s answer the primary question, “ARE YOU READY!?”
Hell yes, damn right!
Volunteers can sign up directly by going to the North Mississippi Classic’s website and interested sponsors can contact Nikki Paine at 662-603-4861.
To highlight the select company that Oxford is joining, here are the other web.com host cities for 2018: Great Exuma, Bahamas; Great Abaco, Bahamas; Panama City, Panama; Bogotá, Columbia; León, Guanjuato, Mexico; Broussard, Louisiana (Lafayette); Savannah, Georgia; Newburgh, Indiana (Evansville); Knoxville, Tennessee; Greenville, South Carolina; Brentwood, Tennessee (Nashville); Raleigh, North Carolina; Mundelein, Illinois (Chicago); Wichita, Kansas; Springfield, Illinois; Clymer, New York; Farmington, Utah; Omaha, Nebraska; Springfield, Missouri; Overland Park, Kansas (Kansas City); Hayward, California; North Plains, Oregon; Columbus, Ohio; Beachwood, Ohio (Cleveland); Boise, Idaho; and Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Wow! As Yogi allegedly said once upon a time, “Who would have thunk it?”
