Rebels Outlast the Tigers on the Diamond
A strong performance at the plate by Nick Fortes and Grae Kessinger propelled the Ole Miss Rebels to a 8-6 win over the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday.
No. 9 Ole Miss’ (4-0) offensive explosion from this past weekend carried over to the first mid-week game of the season. In the bottom of the first the Rebels opened the game strong with a two-run blast by Fortes.
Fortes delivered another shot in his next at bat in the form of a three-run home run. He finished the game going 2-4 at the dish, scoring 3 runs and driving in 6 RBI.
Kessinger was on fire in the lead-off spot against the Tigers as he delivered three hits in his first three appearances. He set a new career high in hits with four, including a double and three singles, and also scored three runs.
Sophomore RHP Houston Roth made his debut as a Rebel. He went four complete while striking out six and gave up just two runs in his final inning of work.
Memphis started to climb back into the game in the fourth inning as Kyle O’Keefe blasted a two-run bomb.
The Rebels called on the arms of Austin Miller (2.0), Greer Holston (1.0), Will Stokes (1.0) and Dallas Woolfolk to keep the Tigers at bay.
Ole Miss returns to the diamond on Friday in a three-game series with Tulane.
