Thursday's Top Tune Throwback: Lobo's "How Can I Tell Her"

Published

on

Breaking up is never easy as this soft rock classic suggests. For such a beautiful song to only reach No. 22 remains a mystery to this day. Written by Roland K. LaVoie (Lobo) and produced by Phil Gernhard, this classic was one the top songs of summer 1973.

Lobo, which is the Spanish word for “Wolf,” manufactured some of the best music in the ’70s including the No. 2 “I’d Love You to Want Me,” “It Sure Took a Long, Long Time” and their signature hit “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo” reaching No. 5 after release in March 1971.
Born in Tallahassee and raised in Winter Haven, Florida, Lobo the singer/ songwriter started at an early age, perfecting his talent that placed him among the greatest musicians of all time.
Reflecting on the lyrics of our featured song this week, “She knows when I’m lonesome, she cries when I’m sad. Whenever I’m discouraged, she knows just what to do. But girl, she doesn’t know about you.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the music of this exceptional artist, rectify this now. And even if you’ve never had a dog named Boo, the enjoyment of these soft rock ballads will brighten up your wintertime days.
