Janeah Stewart Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week
Ole Miss track and field senior All-American Janeah Stewart has been named the SEC Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Stewart has had a superb opening to the indoor season, currently ranking No. 2 in the NCAA in the weight throw at her most recent toss from this past weekend at the Razorback Invite at 22.95m (75-03.50). Stewart owned three of the top 10 throws in the nation this past weekend, as well as seven of the top 16 all season. Her career-best, an Ole Miss school record and SEC meet record 23.18m (76-00.75) set last season, is still contributing to the No. 10 national ranking for the Rebel women.
In addition to two weight throw titles this season (Stewart has been the top collegian in each meet this year in the event), she has also won two shot put titles. Her season-best, 16.55m (54-03.75), ranks 17th in the NCAA at the moment.
Ole Miss will split squads for the first time next week, with a group of jumpers and pole vaulters heading out west to the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., and a group of throwers and sprinters up to Southern Illinois for the Don DeNoon Invite in Carbondale, Ill. – both on Feb. 2-3.
