Oxford School District Superintendent Brian Harvey awards Mary Martha Crowe with the 2018 Oxford School District Teacher of the Year.

Martha Mary Crowe of Oxford Intermediate School (OIS) was named Oxford School District’s Teacher of the Year in a school board meeting on Monday.

Crowe, who has worked with the Oxford School District since 2006, serves as a gifted teacher and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) site coordinator at OIS.
“I couldn’t be more blessed,” Crowe said. “I’m just proud in knowing the type of people I get to work with day in and day out and knowing that I’m one of them.”
To determine the Teacher of the Year award winner, teachers fill out an application provided by the Mississippi Department of Education. The Faculty Advisory Council then grades each section using a rubric scale. As part of the application, reference letters from colleagues, principals and students must be included.
Superintendent Brian Harvey read aloud to the audience what one student had to say about Crowe:
“Mrs. Crowe has been a phenomenal teacher and even more phenomenal friend,” the letter read. “She’s been a rock there for so many students and will continue to be one for so many more. It is mentioned by many that we should learn to give people their flowers while they are still with us and granting her with the Oxford School District Teacher of the Year [award] would be doing exactly that.”
Crowe’s application will be sent to the Mississippi Department of Education to compete for the state title.
Other teachers recognized as 2018 Teachers of the Year from their respective schools were Erica Oliver of Bramlett Elementary, Mary Dickerson of Oxford Elementary, Sarah Simer of Della Davidson Elementary, Anna Jeffries of Oxford Middle School, Charley Sabatier of Oxford High School, and Jamie Perkins of Oxford Learning Center.
Also in Monday’s meeting, Bradley Roberson was named 2018 Administrator of the Year.
In Roberson’s time with the Oxford School District, he has served as a math teacher, an associate athletic director and assistant principal at Oxford High School. He also served as assistant principal at Oxford Middle School. After a two-year stint in Senatobia, he returned to the Oxford School District in 2015 to serve as the principal of Oxford High School.
“Mr. Roberson has done phenomenal work in changing the culture in Oxford High School into a culture that truly cares,” Harvey said to Roberson at Tuesday’s meeting. “Teachers care about teachers, teachers care about students and students care about each other. We’re proud to have you in the district, and we’re proud that you’re our Administrator of the Year.”
“This award is truly just a reflection of me having the opportunity to work with an incredible group of staff members and an incredible group of kids,” Roberson said. “There’s no place I’d rather be than representing the Oxford School District and Oxford High School. It is truly the best district in the state of Mississippi, and one that I think is one of the best in the country. So, thank you all for letting me be a part of it.”
