The Ole Miss women’s basketball team returns to action this evening as they travel to take on No. 11 Missouri in an SEC tilt. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on the SEC Network.
Ole Miss (11-6, 1-3 SEC) is going up against ranked opponents in back-to-back games after last Sunday’s 76-45 loss to No.4 Mississippi State. In that game, the Rebels cut the Bulldogs’ lead down to seven at one point, but Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians proved to be too much to handle.
Coach Matt Insell’s squad was led by 14 points from Madinah Muhammad and nine from Alissa Alston, who played 37 and 38 minutes, respectively, for Ole Miss on the night. Meanwhile, McCowan (25), Vivians (15) and Blair Schaefer (14) combined for 54 of State’s 76 total points.
Muhammad could become one of the top scorers in Ole Miss history; she’s currently on pace for 1,107 points by the end of her junior season, using her current 17.8 PPG average. If she hits the mark, she will become the 29th Rebel to eclipse the 1,000-point threshold.
Missouri comes into the game with a 3-1 mark in conference play and an overall record of 15-2. The Tigers took down Vanderbilt 81-70 on the road last Thursday night. This season, Missouri’s offense has run through junior guard Sophie Cunningham, who is averaging 17.9 points each time out on the court.
As a team, the Tigers are scoring 72.3 points per game and only allowing their opponents 59.3 a night.
The Tigers lead the all-time series 6-1, with all six of their wins coming since joining the SEC during the 2012-13 season. The lone contest outside of SEC play belongs to the Rebels, who won 64-58 on Jan. 5, 1981, in Oxford.
