The Ole Miss women’s basketball team fell hard to the No. 4 Mississippi State Bulldogs 76-45 Thursday night in the Hump.
Mississippi State’s (18-0, 4-0 SEC) Tearia McCown made it difficult for the Rebels to defend inside the paint as she scored 25 points on 12-of-13 shooting and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Ole Miss (11-6, 1-3 SEC) had trouble getting started in the game as the Bulldogs opened the game up on a 14-0 run. In the last six minutes of the quarter, the Rebels outscored State 9-8. Mississippi State found the range from beyond the arc with the three ball.
Prior to both teams going into the locker room, Ole Miss outscored State 13-12, behind the play of Madinah Muhammad. At halftime, Mississippi State led Ole Miss by the score of 34-22.
Muhammad ended the game with a team-leading 14 points. Her teammate, Alissa Alston, was right behind her with 9 buckets of her own.
In the third quarter, Ole Miss put up 16 more points, but the Bulldogs held on by putting up 22.
Mississippi State scored 20 in the final 10 minutes of action, while their defense only allowed the Rebels to find the bucket for 7 points.
The Bulldogs had a total of 40 points in the paint and 13 second-chance opportunities. The Rebels had 22 points inside and 6-second chance. Both teams had 12 bench points in the game.
Ole Miss returns to the court on Thursday as they host the Missouri Tigers. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
