John Cofield's Oxford and Ole Miss: Sardis Lake and Faulkner's Sailboat
Out of the public eye, William Faulkner loved to sail his 19-foot sailboat, The Ring Dove, at Sardis Reservoir near Oxford.
He bought the boat from Author Guyton for $300 and took it home to Rowan Oak, where he spent weeks scraping, caulking, painting and fitting it for launching.

John Cofield is a HottyToddy.com writer and one of Oxford’s leading folk historians. He is the son of renowned university photographer, Jack Cofield. His grandfather, J.R. “Colonel” Cofield, was William Faulkner’s personal photographer and for decades was the Ole Miss yearbook photographer. Cofield attended Ole Miss as well.
