Officers with the Oxford Police Department responded to the area of Church Street on Dec. 24 in response to a tip on an alleged auto burglary. Upon their arrival, police say they spotted Allen Mathis, 21, of Oxford, fleeing the area on foot.
Officers detained and questioned Mathis, who allegedly admitted that he had broken into two vehicles that day. Mathis was charged with multiple counts of auto burglary.
Mathis was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where his bond was initially set at $20,000. The bond was later revoked when a separate felony bond was uncovered.
