The Wineskins Set to Perform at the Powerhouse Jan. 6 (with Video)

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council will get the new year off to a mellow start with a live performance by the Mississippi band, The Wineskins, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Powerhouse.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
Jeff Gordon and W. Keith Moore make up the core of The Wineskins, with Moore penning the lyrics and Gordon crafting the melodies. They’ll perform songs from their new album, “Shut Me Up Sundance.”
The duo’s previous LP, “Rattle My Faith,” a collection of songs spanning from 1992 through 2013, can be purchased online. The LP reflects old-school folk influences like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Seals and Croft. The title song is a dark meditation on spiritual complacency, while the melodiously upbeat “Little Castles,” with its dreamy harmonies and tinkling piano, feels like a deep cut on a 70s folk-rock album.
According to CDBaby.com, “Rattle My Faith” pays homage to growing up in the Deep South, “a place where the land itself vibrates with beauty and sadness. You can stand in one spot and feel it coming up through the ground, these stories that beg to be told.”
