Shea Patterson is thinking big after announcing his transfer from Ole Miss to Michigan.
In a piece published by The Blade’s Kyle Rowland on Wednesday, the former Rebels quarterback explained his thought process behind announcing his decision to transfer Monday.
One of the driving forces behind his move? A chance to play for a national championship.
Here’s more from Rowland’s story:
Patterson makes good points. He entered Ole Miss as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback for the Class of 2016. With the Rebels not eligible for a bowl game next season, it’s not surprising to learn that he wanted to go to a place where he could compete for a title.
We’ll see if Patterson will be eligible next year. Usually, a player must sit out a season after transferring before being eligible to play. However, Patterson hopes the NCAA will grant his waiver because of Ole Miss’ circumstances with the program’s NCAA penalties.
Patterson threw for 3,139 yards with 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in parts of two seasons with the Rebels.

    Really?
Patterson thought he was going to play for a national championship with Ole Miss? when? as a freshman?
He didn’t know that the NCAA was investigating Ole Miss (for the last FIVE years, BTW) when he signed on to play football here? And now Patterson says he is leaving because we don’t have a chance to play in the national championship game NEXT year? And he thinks MICHIGAN is going to? Has he never heard of someone named Urban Meyer? Or James Franklin? Or Mark Dantonio?
If I’m Matt Luke I want kids to come to Ole Miss because they love the ATMOSPHERE of our school, our competitive attitude, our traditions, our rivalries, and our outstanding academic achievements. I’m not recruiting kids who only want to play in a national championship game or, well, then I’m going to leave and go somewhere else.
Good luck Shea. Hope your new coach does better than 8 games next year, which is only 2 better than Matt Luke did, WITH a bowl ban, scholarship limits, an NCAA investigation, and being handed the job just before the season started. Maybe they will even let you throw a forward pass now and again. Also, they have TONS of waffle houses in Ann Arbor, I’m told. Should be a blast.
And Oh, Yeah, WE actually BEAT our in-state rival.
