OPD on the Hunt for Drunk Drivers During Holidays

Published

on

The holiday season is known for being merry and bright, but it is also the deadliest season because of drunk driving. During the increase in drunk driving related fatalities around the holidays, Oxford Police Department reminds motorists to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” as a part of the national DUI enforcement campaign from December 13–31.
“Our officers will be actively looking for and arresting drunk drivers,” said Chief Joey East. “Drunk driving is a serious choice you make. People get hurt and fatalities are caused when you make the choice to drive drunk. Catch a ride or hand your keys over to someone else who is sober if you know you will be drinking at a holiday party.”
Oxford Police Department is increasing details to stop drinking and driving. If you’re caught drinking and driving you could face jail time, fines, loss of driver’s license, towing fees and other DUI expenses, totaling $10,000 on average. Taking your life or someone else’s life is a much larger price to pay.
The Oxford Police Department offers safe tips and alternatives to drinking and driving:

  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the Oxford Police Department.
  • If you will be drinking and driving, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before the drinking begins.
  • If you see someone is about to drive that has been drinking, take their keys away and make arrangements to get them home safely.
  • If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, Uber, phone a sober friend or family member or use public transportation.
