In a tale of two halves, the Ole Miss Rebels overcame a 20-point halftime deficit but ended up a little short as they fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 99-97 in overtime.
Ole Miss (4-2) had four different players score double figures in the loss as junior Terence Davis led the way with 22 points. His teammate Deandre Burnett added 21 points, while Markel Crawford scored 19 on the night and Devontae Shuler finished the night with 17 points of his own.
The Rebels had trouble getting a bucket in the first half as South Dakota State held them to only 7 percent shooting from behind the arc and 36 percent from the floor. The Jackrabbits shot better than 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point land.
“South Dakota State put on a clinic in the first half – credit to them,” Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy said.
South Dakota State took a 55-35 advantage into the locker rooms.
Ole Miss has had a big second half in most of its games this season. On Tuesday night, the Rebels found their shooting legs again as they outscored the Jackrabbits by 20 points.
The Rebels shot 66 percent from the field in the second half while holding South Dakota State to 35 percent in the second half.
“I knew if we would get downhill and get going, try to make it a game, put some pressure on them, we could get back in it really quickly,” Kennedy said.
In overtime the Jackrabbits used the three ball and going to the line to pull out the win.
South Dakota State was led in scoring by forward Mike Daum with 26 points in the game.
Ole Miss returns to action on Saturday as they host Virginia Tech inside the Pavilion at 1 p.m.
