After a huge come-from-behind victory over Kentucky on Saturday, Ole Miss had three players receive SEC Player of the Week honors by the league office.
Junior quarterback Jordan Ta’amu won SEC Offensive Player of the Week as he threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns against the Wildcats in the Rebels’ 37-34 win.
The game against UK was only the second career start for Ta’amu in a Rebel uniform.
“You wouldn’t believe it was his second start, especially the way he led that last drive,” Ole Miss Head Coach Matt Luke said. “It’s very impressive. I think he’s earned the respect of the guys in the locker room. The big thing … was no turnovers. He was calm in the pocket. I think we gave up a sack on the first drive, but he didn’t get rattled on the road. Just very impressive. A lot of credit to him and coach Phil Longo both.”
Wide receiver D.K. Metcalf earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week with two touchdown catches in the win against Kentucky. His last touchdown snag was in the closing seconds of the game to pull out a road win for the red and blue.
Metcalf ended the game with five receptions for a game-high 83 yards.
Meanwhile, SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors went to sophomore Josiah Coatney with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss against Kentucky.
The Rebels return home this weekend, as they step out of conference play and take on Louisiana at 11 a.m.
