Oxford Middle School Placed on "Temporary Lockdown" Earlier Today
The Oxford Police Department placed Oxford Middle School on temporary lockdown this morning after receiving “notice of a potential threat” to the school’s safety, according to an OPD press release.
Authorities investigated the threat’s credibility “to quickly determine that the threat was made outside of the Oxford School District,” the statement says. “Once Oxford police determined the safety of the school to be intact, the lockdown was lifted.”
Reached for comment by phone, a spokesperson for OPD simply read aloud the statement below and gave no more detail. We’ll provide updates if/when additional information becomes available.
Here’s the full text of the OPD’s statement:
At approximately 8:20 a.m. this morning, the Oxford Police Department received notice of a potential threat to the safety of the Oxford Middle School. At that time the School Resource Officers notified school administration and placed the Oxford Middle School on lock-down while the threat’s credibility was investigated.
The Oxford Police department worked with school administration to quickly determine that the threat was made outside of the Oxford School District. Once Oxford Police determined the safety of the school to be intact the lock-down was lifted.
The Oxford Police Department always takes the utmost care in carrying out this type of safety procedure in regards to the safety of both children and administrators in the school district.
