gobble-wobble-traditionU Club Townhomes, a new student living community set to open in fall 2018, is helping to fight hunger with a Gobble Wobble 5K benefiting the Mid-South Food Bank. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Avent Park in Oxford.
Registration for the 5K is free and open to the public. The first 500 people who register will receive a t-shirt, and U Club Townhomes will make a donation to the Mid-South Food Bank for everyone who registers.
“For every participant, U Club Townhomes will make a donation of $1 to the Mid-South Food Bank. This donation will in turn feed three people,” said Rachel Cox, senior director of property marketing operations. “All donations will go directly to the Mid-South Food Bank benefiting The Pantry in Oxford.”
The Pantry in Oxford has been open for more than 30 years and feeds over 470 families in the Oxford and Lafayette communities each month. The Pantry receives no federal or state funding and relies solely on food and monetary donations from individuals and these type of events to keep its doors open. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the busiest times of the year for The Pantry and donations from this event will help the organization meet this increased demand.
“We’re so excited for the Gobble Wobble 5K,” said Kayla Allen, U Club Townhomes at Oxford’s general manager. “This event is our chance to beat Mississippi State in the Million Meals Challenge, fight hunger in Mississippi, and have some fun, all benefitting the Mid-South Food Bank and the Oxford Pantry. Here’s your chance to get fit and give back!”
The event will begin at 9 a.m on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Avent Park. To register for the Gobble Wobble visit here or text “Gobble” to 313131.
