5 Spooktacular Events at Ole Miss this Halloween
As Halloween creeps closer, some Ole Miss students may be trying to figure out just what events to attend on campus. Luckily, Ole Miss has plenty of organizations celebrating the spookiest time of the year!
“Spooky Science Night”
The Department of Physics and Astronomy will host Spooky Science Night in Lewis Hall from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. The program will include a stage show at 8 p.m., as well as hands-on activities for the public through the evening, include freezing objects in liquid nitrogen (at minus 320 degrees), generating sound waves with Bunsen burners and tubes, and levitating magnets with superconductors. Other fun presentations include optical illusions with mirrors, a Van de Graaff generator (a literally “hair-raising” electrical device), a bed of nails and other contraptions. There will also be ice cream made with liquid nitrogen and a costume contest for children ages 12 and under with prizes for the best outfits.
“Guyton Fall Festival”
The School of Education and Teachers of Tomorrow will be hosting their annual Guyton Fall Festival at Guyton Hall from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30. The event is family-friendly and will feature various activities such as arts and crafts, bounce houses and games, not to mention complimentary snacks!
“Hocus Pocus” and “Get Out”
The Residential College South Film Club will be screening “Hocus Pocus” as well as “Get Out,” starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26. The event will take place in the library of Residential College South and snacks will be provided.
“Babadook Ball”
The Sarah Isom Center for Women & Gender Studies and OutOxford are holding a “Babadook Ball” at Proud Larry’s on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 9:15 p.m. – 12:15 a.m. The event is an all-inclusive costume party.
According to the event’s Facebook page, “Babadook Ball offers a safe space for ALL to celebrate diversity for one night on the Oxford Square. Please come to mingle with the community and make new friends. Dancing and singing is encouraged with our DJ talent, Drag Queen performers, and other guests.”
The event is 18+ and there is a $5 entry fee.
“Halloween with the Greeks”
And finally, all Greek fraternities on campus will be holding their own parties Oct. 26-28, the weekend before Halloween. Kappa Sig, Sigma Nu, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Kappa Tau, and Phi Delta Theta will be having parties on Thursday, Oct. 26. Sigma Chi, Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Kappa Alpha will be having parties on Friday, Oct. 27. And Phi Psi, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Pi, Chi Psi, and Delta Psi will be having parties on Saturday, Oct. 28.
With all of these events going on around campus, there’s sure to be something that can pique everyone’s interest!
