Holiday Marketplace Spotlight: Gardens Oy Vey and Fran Riddell

This year’s Holiday Marketplace welcomes back both vendors, Gardens Oy Vey and Fran Riddell!

 

 

Gardens Oy Vey is owned by Diane Meucci, a Chicago native. She is the designer, grower and maintenance woman of the operation. Within the last two years, the nursery has changed to “an online nursery” allowing visits and purchases to be made by appointment.
Wolfgang Marquardt, native German, is the other part of this mom-and-pop business. He is the propagator, webmaster, shipping person and events coordinator.
Liam Boyd, from a farming family north of Memphis, has been with Gardens Oy Vey as a part-time hand for about four years and has proven to be a valuable asset, mainly
to the market and events side of the business.
Over the last few years, they have specialized in unique rustic “table gardens.” They have indoor low-light gardens, winter-hardy outdoor shade gardens, winter-hardy sun gardens, and indoor sunny-window gardens. All are hypertufa containers, a mix of Portland cement, peat moss and sand. Printed care instructions come with each container. Prices range from $18 to $280. 

 

Fran Riddell has great respect for the workmanship and history of older vintage and antique pieces of jewelry. With that in mind, she carefully redesigns hand-selected pins/brooches and uses them as a centerpiece for freshwater-cultured pearl bracelets and necklaces. Being aware of the principle of individuality, every one-of-a-kind piece is made with the purpose of maintaining uniqueness. Her design efforts are done with the intent to breathe fresh life into the older pieces of jewelry and incorporate them into every bracelet and necklace as a focal point. Fran designs each piece of jewelry to remind everyone to savor the past, enjoy the present and look forward to the future. She is available to do special orders in time for Christmas.
