Traditions by U Club Townhomes: The Alma Mater
The cheers, the smiles, the food and the football: all things that make game day at Ole Miss. However, amidst all this celebration, there is one sound that cuts through the noise at the end of the game and reminds students, fans and players why we all came together. It’s more than football, and it’s more than just a school. It’s the alma mater that reminds us we are a family.
The alma mater played at the end of every home football game by the beloved Pride of the South marching band brings everyone together. The alma mater reminds everyone that the passion, sweat and heart played by our team in the Vaught on this day was not just about getting a ball across a line. The alma mater reminds us that there are no barriers in this family. We are all bonded by the love of our school and our team.
This year the Ole Miss football team has created a new tradition that will hopefully be carried down to future generations. At the end of every home football game, the entire football team stands in front of the student section in the north end zone and sings along with their fellow students as the band plays the alma mater.
The words of this classic Ole Miss song brings memories of the Grove, the campus buildings and the memories we all carry in our heart of this beautiful place and these people that surround us.
“Way down south in Mississippi,
There’s a spot that ever calls
Where among the hills enfolded,
Stand Old Alma Mater’s Halls.
Where the trees lift high their branches,
To the whisp’ring southern breeze,
There Ole Miss is calling, calling,
to our hearts fond memories.”
These verses, though short, bond us across time and lines that divide us on normal days. This new tradition combines Ole Miss’ history with its future. It brings students, players, the Pride of the South band and fans together to remember what is most important on these game days. Win or lose, we are all Ole Miss Rebels.

While, since learning the investigated, tormented and damaged me, so did the Wheaton College educators to organize an event for those who are glad to join their alma mater research center. Be that as it may, while I had to live in Germany, Korea and Bulgaria, different stateside areas or the movement I’ve had, I wrote my narrative achieve essays about that.
