After averaging 2.12 blocks per set and hitting .400 last week in two wins for the Ole Miss volleyball team, sophomore middle blocker Nayo Warnell (Dickinson, Texas) was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Warnell helped the Rebels to a 3-0 win at Mississippi State last Wednesday and a 3-2 victory at home against Georgia on Sunday. She tallied 5 kills on a .455 clip along with 6 blocks to help the Rebels snap a three-match losing streak to Mississippi State.
Sunday, Warnell recorded a career-high 11 blocks and chipped in 7 kills on a .357 attack percentage to help lead Ole Miss to its fifth straight win against Georgia and the best start (3-1) in SEC play since 2010.
Warnell currently ranks eighth in the SEC in hitting percentage at .353 and has helped the Rebels rank second in opponent hitting percentage at .158.
The Rebels hit the road this weekend for matches at Arkansas on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Missouri on Sunday at 12 p.m.
