The Ole Miss baseball team wrapped up its second week of fall practice with a pair of intrasquad games over the weekend, which featured some standout performances both on the mound and at the plate.
In Saturday’s scrimmage, it was a tightly-contested game with five combined runs, as the top three hitters on the Red team combined for six hits. Nick Fortes led the charge going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two steals. Michael Spears finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Grae Kessinger was 1-for-4 with a RBI and run scored from the top of the order. Thomas Dillard also added a double and two steals.
On the mound, newcomer Pierce Smith earned the start for the Red and didn’t allow a hit through three frames, striking out three with three walks. Emanuel Fernandez followed him also with three Ks and a hit allowed in three innings, while Will Stokes worked the final two on the hill with two runs allowed off two hits.
Brady Feigl got the starting nod for team Blue, striking out five with one run allowed off four hits. Maxwell Cioffi gave up two runs off two hits in the middle innings, while Jordan Fowler surrendered just one hit with one strikeout in his first appearance.
Offensively, Michael Fitzsimmons and Tyler Keenan both went yard for RBI, while Golston Gillespie added the other hit.
In Sunday’s scrimmage, the two teams were fairly balanced offensively, as team Red tallied eight hits, while Blue recorded five to end the game in a 2-2 tie.
Similar to the theme in Saturday’s contest, the top three hitters in the Red order were the highlight, led by Anthony Servideo’s 3-for-4 performance, which included a home run and double. Kessinger also had a solo home run going 1-for-4, while Will Golsan was 2-for-4. Dillard and Cooper Johnson added the other two hits for Team Red.
On the other side, Fortes and Tim Rowe combined for four of the five hits, including a pair of doubles from Fortes with one RBI, and two more doubles from Rowe. Fitzsimmons had a RBI off a sacrifice fly, while Carl Gindl added the other hit for Team Blue.
It was Parker Caracci who earned the start on the mound for Team Red, who allowed just two hits and one run, while Connor Green had a solid day with five strikeouts and just two hits. Matt Myers closed it out with a run allowed off one hit and three walks.
Austin Miller worked three scoreless innings for Team Blue, before Colin Coats worked the middle innings with two runs given up off five hits. Will Ethridge closed it out striking out two with a pair of hits allowed.
